What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?

Why ranking on Google is no longer enough — and how to make sure ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity actually mention your product.

Classic SEO gets you ranked in ten blue links. GEO — Generative Engine Optimization — gets you mentioned in the answer. When a potential customer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity "what's the best tool for X", there are no page-two results. You're either in the answer or you don't exist.

The three levers of GEO

  1. Extractability. LLM crawlers read your raw HTML. If your content only appears after JavaScript runs, many AI crawlers never see it.
  2. Access. Your robots.txt might be blocking GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or PerplexityBot without you knowing — often inherited from a CDN default.
  3. Citability. Structured data (JSON-LD), clear entity definitions, and an llms.txt file make it easy for models to understand who you are and when to recommend you.

How SuperSEO.sh helps

SuperSEO.sh audits all three on every scan: it parses your robots.txt per AI bot, measures how much of your content requires JS, checks your JSON-LD coverage — and then samples real buyer-intent prompts against live LLMs to tell you whether you're actually being mentioned. That's your GEO Score.
